New Star Wars Canon Book Series Released for World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day 2016 the Lucasfilm Story Group are releasing a series of short books, called Adventures in Wild Space.

These books will be regarded as canon (as are all books published since September 2014 beginning with A New Dawn). The first in the series, The Escape, is a shorter introduction to the main story which will be told in 4 longer instalments: The Snare, The Nest, The Steal and concluding with The Dark.Adventures_in_Wild_Space_cover

World Book Day is an annual celebration of books and reading by the Booksellers Association and the Publishers Association. In the UK, World Book Day is celebrated in the first Thursday in March and all children in full time education are given a voucher to spend on a specially selected book. These books can also be purchased by the general public for the low-low price of only £1! World Book Day doesn’t seem to be celebrated in the same way in the rest of the world, and most places celebrate on the 23 April (in the UK it’s to avoid clashing with the Easter Holidays) rather than the first Thursday in March

All this is to say, if you’re in the UK, you’ll be able to pick up the first in the series, ‘The Escape’ for only £1. The book is also available to purchase on Amazon worldwide, and you can pick up the whole series on Amazon or in your local bookshop

The Official synopsis for the series is as follows:

When their parents are captured by the evil Galactic Empire, brother and sister Milo and Lina Graf must set out on an epic quest to free them. Menaced by Imperial agents, bounty hunters, and gangsters, they will have to travel across the galaxy uncovering clues to rescue their parents and aid the Rebellion in the fight against the Empire…

For those of you keeping track, we’re unsure of when exactly the series takes place, aside from it’s at the height of the Empires power. Given the age of the series target audience, it’s fair to guess it takes place around the time of the Rebels TV show. The official World Book Day website shows reviews from children aged between 7 – 9, so while this is an official canon story, don’t expect any hard hitting major plot points. Still, if you’re an completionist like us, its essential reading.

The remaining 4 books in the series will be released over the coming months (the last in the series is set to be released April 28th)

The series is written by veteran children’s book author Cavan Scott who has written books for major franchises including Doctor Who, Penguins of Madagascar, Skylanders, Adventure Time, Pathfinder, Angry Birds, Judge Dredd, Disney Infinity, Blake’s 7 and Warhammer 40,000. You can find out more about his work at his website http://cavanscott.com/

Once you’ve read the series, be sure to mark them as completed, leave a review, and check out the other books available that make up the current Star Wars canon.
